Course Description

About this Course

The Heart of SmartFLOW Yoga, a yoga methodology from master teacher Annie Carpenter, is a highly evolved teaching technique that emphasizes mindful alignment grounded in both modern human anatomy and classical yoga philosophy. It's an embodied integration of the physical and the spiritual.

This course will elevate your understanding of the human body's nuanced expressions through physical yoga practice. You will learn skills for communicating these teachings clearly and concisely, which will help your students remain mindfully present. Through this insightful and compassionate approach to teaching, you will be able to intuit how deeply your students can safely move into a pose at any given time, while celebrating the uniqueness of each human body.

What's in this course?

In the Heart of SmartFLOW Yoga teacher training course, you will learn the heart of Annie Carpenter's SmartFLOW teaching methodology. This course contains over 30 videos, including lectures, demonstrations, asana practices, and meditations to elevate your ability to teach using this sophisticated methodology. You will also receive supplementary worksheets, illustrations, and quizzes designed to enhance your learning experience and the quality of your teaching.

In this course Annie will introduce you to the foundational principles of her methodology including, "The Effort" and "The Return to Center", which are grounded in both anatomical truths and the Classical Yoga concepts, abhyasa (practice) and vairagya (non-attachment). As you progress through the course, Annie systematically builds upon this foundation by illuminating three important anatomical teachings, or Movement Principles, that cover the spine, pelvis, and shoulder girdles, as well as specific poses that exemplify each principle.

Through this comprehensive teacher training you will gain the tools to teach with specificity while encouraging each of your students to find their own way -- eliminating the habits of perfectionism, judgment and shame that can be a part of our yoga culture -- creating an atmosphere of mindful self-inquiry and exploration.

In the course you will explore

    • The yogic concepts abhyasa and vairagya and their application to asana
    • Three Movement Principles of the spine, pelvis, and shoulder girdles
    • Essential anatomy for healthy alignment
    • How to bring alignment, awareness and specificity to a flow class
    • How to balance teaching with specificity and compassion
    • The creative power of inquiry

Level

This course is best suited for experienced students, new teachers and long-time teachers who want to re-inspire themselves and in turn their students. "I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Annie's movement principles of "effort" and "return" were very easy to incorporate right into the classroom and hit home with my students right away. YogaGlo's structure of chapters is also helpful. It was much easier to start and stop the course so I could tend to my job and home life as needed without scheduling a lot of time on the computer. I'm already putting new courses on my wishlist!"
