Meditation

Sally Kempton is a powerful teacher of applied spiritual wisdom, known for her capacity to kindle meditative states in others, and to help students work with meditative experience as a framework for practical life-change. She teaches teleclasses, retreats, and workshops, appearing at conference centers such as Esalen and Kripalu. Sally is the author of 'Meditation for the Love of It', which Spirituality and Health magazine called 'the meditation book your heart wants you to read.' She writes a regular column, 'Wisdom' for Yoga Journal, as well as a column called 'Meditation for Life' on the Internet religious site Patheos.com.

A former swami in a Vedic tradition, Sally's teachings combine deep knowledge of the texts of yoga and tantra with practical wisdom from contemporary psychology and integral thought.

Sally's latest book, Awakening Shakti, gives you access to powerful tools for tuning in to the transformative power of the sacred feminine.

After a brief introduction, find a comfortable seat and reflect on three congruent meditations on love. Connect first to the sense of what love feels like in your body, later moving on to a meditation where you experience a time where you felt a pure sense of love. Finally, allow universal love to resonate throughout your body. Props Needed: A blanket. Props Suggested: A bolster or pillow to sit on.

Find your entrance into stillness, a place hidden in the natural flow of breath as you meditate on the pauses between each inhale and exhale. Allow a feeling of softening by following the flow of each inhalation. Feel it naturally come to rest as each exhalation arises from this place and merges with the air outside. Props Needed: A blanket. Props Suggested: A bolster or pillow to sit on.
Practice Focus: Breath

Begin with the sensations that you are aware of in your body, then recognize that whatever you experience is held within awareness. Then, rest in the felt sense of alive presence. A great practice if you are just beginning to meditate, or if you are looking to deepen your practice of noticing subtleties within and around you. Props Needed: A blanket. Props Suggested: A bolster or pillow to sit on.
