Unwind Low Back Create Happy Hips

Yin | By Felicia Tomasko on Dec 02 2010
Unwind the spine with this practice that begins with neck and shoulder
releases and then dives into three sequential seated forward folds before a
long (5 minutes on each side) cross-legged spinal twist to get deep into the
low back and release long-held tension. The second half of the class
features supine hip openers. Stand up after class for happy hips!

    Dear @Sarah-John
If you're feeling some numbness, that's usually a sign to back off a bit. Yes, your instinct was right on--relax!
Let me know how it goes.

I feel so much better now! I was feeling very out of balance and tight. In the cross legged spinal twist, the hand of my outstretched arm on the opposite side of my legs had an almost numb feeling. There was no pain. Just wondering if this is normal. Maybe I should have relaxed that shoulder and arm a little rather than stretching quite so much.

    Ted,
Glad to hear that you feel great at the end of class! Yes, sometimes we need more time in hip openers and twists to create change in the body. Keep up with your practice.
