Yin Yoga focuses on lengthening the connective tissue that surrounds the joints in the body, with particular attention to the hips, pelvis, and lower back. Postures (mostly seated) are held--often with the use of props--for 3-10 minutes per side, as connective tissue requires more time to stretch than muscle tissue. The essence of a Yin Yoga practice is surrender. **A 4 inch foam yoga block (or household item such as a dictionary or large soup can!) and a blanket or bolster are recommended.
