Build Heat & A Deep Sense of Ease

Vinyasa Flow | By Dice Iida-Klein on Aug 08 2012
This class is an extended version of a 30min class that I did a while back. We flow to get the heat moving through the body, then we hold a variety postures for 1 minute, sometimes a little bit longer. By holding postures longer, we calm the chatter in the mind and leave room for space and clarity in the body. Expect a deep sense of ease at the end of the practice. Postures include Virabhadrasana II, Parsvakonasana, Horse stance, frog pose, handstand and urdhva dhanurasana/bridge pose. From the floor we find upavistha konasana and a few different seated postures. Enjoy my fellow yogis!

Dice, your classes are challenging and insightful! Thank you for everything! I'm joining the Peace Corps and will be unable to access the internet on a regular basis. Do you have any book recommendations or advice so that my practice won't suffer as a result?
    • Dice Iida-Klein     Sep 23rd, 2013
Hey Galen! Kudos to you for joining the Peace Corps :) You have many options when it comes to the self practice. I would suggest trying the Ashtanga Primary Series since it is a widely available sequence in many books. Try David Swenson's book. Other options are to find an asana book and come up with your own sequences. Think about what you're feeling before you practice. If you're practicing in the morning it's good to get moving. Backbends are energizing. If you're practicing at night, forward folds, seated postures and hip openers are great. Having said all of that, there are still so many options for you my fellow yogi. I hope that helps :) Practice on!

I have a cyst in my knee and frog pose is too much pressure on it. What is an alternative for frog pose? Thank you!
    • Dice Iida-Klein     Jun 14th, 2013
Hey Rose. Give supta baddhakonasana or regular baddhakonasana a try. I hope that helps :)
  • Bernadette de Castro     Jun 2nd, 2013

  • Astrid Rodriguez     May 12th, 2013
I am loving how holding postures feels mentally. I tried the shorter practice and enjoyed it, but this one , this is what I need. I benefit a lot from the focus it takes to hold a challenging pose. Thank you!
    • Dice Iida-Klein     May 15th, 2013
You're welcome Astrid. Yes...holding postures tends to make our practice more mental. As much as our physical strength helps us to hold a posture, it's the mental aspect that comes into play after your physical body wants to give up. Our mind is what can get us through the tough times :) Keep on practicing my fellow yogi!

  • MyLinda Morales     Aug 22nd, 2012
Dice this is one of my all time favorite classes! It appeals to the Iyengar trained part of me. I don't mean to embarrass you but how cute are you teaching the 1 min. handstand while in the handstand and just looking around the room and talking at the same time?!? I'm sure Briohny's ok with my statement and I think she would even agree. Paul, however, said you can cut out being so cute :) Can't wait to see you both again. Namaste, MyLinda from Orlando
  • Laura Freundlich     Aug 21st, 2012

  • Mojie B     Aug 9th, 2012
    Thank you Dice,
    Great class as always.
I am dying to get the handstands in middle of the room:), doing yoga since 2002 on and off.
I am pretty felexible and can do arm balances but not able to jump to hand stand from dog!
    any suggestion?
    Thank you again
  • Tracey Fritz     Aug 8th, 2012
My mind feels more settled. I did some great handstands. Felt you challenged us with the holds but it wasn't as fatiguing as some other classes (I love your hard classes, keep 'em coming!). I also have a hard time getting myself to do seated postures, so this was perfect.
Dice, I have learned so much about handstands from you, improved so much, I just want to say thank you. Love your classes, always happy when I see a new one!
  • Grace Boland     Aug 8th, 2012
