Let's Make Yoga!

Hatha | By Steven Espinosa on Aug 09 2012
Steven shares a fun story about his time living and teaching in Berlin. Opening warm up includes several Sun Salutations leading into a strong Standing Pose Flow. Emphasis on creating or making a pose rather than doing a pose. Continues with variations on Shalabhasana (Locust) and Purvottanasa (Table Top) into Camatkrasana (Wild Thing). Also includes Hip Openers in Pigeon and Core Work with Tolasana (Scale Pose). Concludes with Spinal Twists and brief Savasana.

Stephen, what an amazing delivery you have. Love your humor and your down to earth personality. The sequence was so nicely balanced with lots of room for breathing in between.

Stephen, this was a great class. Loved the sequence at the beginning and particularly loved the connection I felt with my mind and body doing the wild thing pose. I have never practiced that one before. Also liked the table top, another first for me!

Thank you so much for your wonderful teaching style.

    Namaste
    Maxine :-)

  • Ulrike Lipow     Aug 10th, 2012
Interesting observation. However, I think you are reading too much into it - it is not an entirely different concept, it is just the way the German language works. Germans also make homework, make a walk, make maths, make dinner, and make progress, to name just a few. Taking another language literally can offer interesting insights, but may also lead to false conclusions. Germans, e.g., tend to think Americans are hyperpolite people because they apologize every time they pass near you in a supermarket aisle... well, that, is, they say sorry, and as you know, that is often not offered as an apology but as a less harsh way of saying: get out of my way... but to German ears it is a deeply felt (and weird) apology...
    • Steven Espinosa     Aug 13th, 2012
Thank you for your comments, Ulrike. I appreciate your insights and point of view. I taught in Berlin for a year and had a wonderful experience. I have nothing but the highest respect and regard for the German culture and people. Steven.
