Head to Toe: Low Back

Restorative | By Felicia Tomasko on Aug 31 2012
Part four of our head to toe series focuses on the low back through rhythmic repetitive movements alternating with gentle twists, supported backbends and a seated forward fold. We use a block in this class to encourage stability in the low back and to engage the abdominal muscles and core. This quiet practice allows us to remember to nourish ourselves, particularly the region of the low back which is constantly supporting us. Through this integrated practice, we spend time in the neighborhood of the low back cleaning up and cultivating balance in the body.

Wonderful. After a day off (!) doing gardening, cooking & ironing, my back was aching hugely. This practice totally released the discomfort and left me feeling wonderfully nourished an peaceful. Another beautiful practice. Thank you.

Thanks Felicia, I am enjoying the entire head to toe series. As a mother of three it helps me through my physical and emotional nurturing so that I can then give nurturing.

Dear Felicia, I have endometriosis and fybroid growth around the womb and uterus, menstrual cramps are always agony for me, now its improving after I adapt a wheat free diet. I find after doing this session, I feel soreness and weakness around the pelvis and womb, is this something good or something to take note of? Also, seated forward bend is especially hard for me, my hands can go up to the ankles, but my upper body will be quite up right, and strain behind the knees, so I just curl in to create the stretch at the back. Any advice there?
