this was so nice to be given the "permission" to focus only on the rhythm of the breath. Very freeing. Great class.
    • Jason Crandell     Dec 11th, 2014
I hope you always feel this permission moving forward, Josh. Thanks for practicing with me.
  • lara campbell     Jun 28th, 2014
This breathing made the most challenging poses super accessible or at the very least stopped my relating to them with a tense attitude. So beautiful too the imagining the sun salute while in pigeon, sit - curious elation from it. thanks so much.

Loved this class. Regulating my breathing was such a challenge, had to force everything else from my mind. Not easy for this type-A gal! Resulted in quite a workout. Thank you.

"Some say that yogic breath is deep breath, I strongly disagree with that, yogic breath is appropriate breath." The breath as sustainer of movement and the movement as an enabler of breathing. Thanks for the teaching Jason.

Usually your one minute sitting still is the most difficult practice for me, this time however was really easy and natural - like floating in the water:) I only missed some forward folds in the end. Thank you!

  • Elizabeth Solomon     Nov 18th, 2012
I am in awe of your integrity and your teaching. Thank you for leading such a beautiful practice - especially for those of us used to practicing vinyasa in such a way it becomes easy for the breath to become erratic and lost. gratitude for this class... :)
    • Jason Crandell     Nov 23rd, 2012
      thank you Elizabeth!
  • Amanda Pickering     Sep 17th, 2012
Thank you for such a wonderful, grounding flow! I had a full day of business travel (including up at 4am to catch a flight), was "in my head" all day and worn out. This vinyasa restored me to bliss both physically and mentally.

Liz - happy you enjoyed this. I agree with you. The practice can nurture us in ways beyond what we think we need. thanks for practicing with me.
  • liz rosenblum     Jul 25th, 2012
Jason. Thank you for a wonderful practice. It always amazes me how our practice can bring us exactly what we didn't even know we needed. That was the case with this class. I chose it looking for a flow and got so much more. A great reminder of the importance of the breath and the challenge of keeping it constant. This practice was challenging in a unique way and helped me find a sense of calm in what had been a not-so-calm day. Thank you!
  • liz rosenblum     Jul 25th, 2012
Jason, Thank you for an amazing class. It's always so fascinating to me how a practice can bring us exactly what we didn't even know we needed. I chose this class looking for a good flow but found so much more. A great reminder of the need to really focus on breathing and that it's not as easy as it seems. This class helped me to find a much needed calm in what had been a less-than-calm day. Thank you.
  • Jason Crandell     Jul 19th, 2012
Jheremy- glad to hear your breathing helped you connect and chill out the way you needed.
  • Jheremy Sigler     Jul 19th, 2012
Thank you so much for this class! I've had a lot of old surging bleh to process and this consistent focus on breathing throughout the practice really helped me strongly connect to my heart and chill out.

Stephanie - glad you found the cultivation and steadiness of your rhythm sweet. thanks for your comment!
  • Stephanie Pritchett     Jun 19th, 2012
Wow, that was cool. Kept the smooth rhythm all the way through. Loved it. I had a teacher bring a metronome to class once. It was a set sequence we all knew and we followed the breath to the rhythm with no instruction. This reminded me of that lovely practice. Thank you. Pure sweetness.
  • Jason Crandell     Jun 17th, 2012

Iduma - happy to hear your attention to your breath, through the movement, helped you quiet the mind. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the comment!
  • Iduma Ortega     Jun 14th, 2012
I loved this practice as it helped me to quiet my mind. I really used movement as an instrument for the breath. It was interesting to keep the pace of the breathing even in the balancing poses. As a result of this practice I feel calm, centered and very relaxed. Many thanks Jason, your classes are awesome!

  • Eva Braam     Jun 8th, 2012
Wow, I'm amazed...I thought after 2 years of practice I knew my breath, but this class has brought it to a whole new level for me...the imaginary sun solutions while in pigeon pose are so incredibly powerful, I am taken back by it...Great class!!!
  • Jason Crandell     Jun 7th, 2012
Jackie - glad you liked class. And, yes, number one reason to practice at home: you get to listen and do what your body tells you to.
  • Jason Crandell     Jun 7th, 2012
Ann - now, that is remarkable skill!
  • Jackie Quayle     Jun 7th, 2012
Thanks Jason, your visualisation of ardha surya namaskar during kapotasana and ardha padmasana was inspired!! My breath felt very full and your teaching points of 'don't be practising the pose, you are practising breathing' were fabulous!! I would have liked a twist or two (I put my own in at the end), as the movements in and out with the breath lent themselves wonderfully to twisting, but that's why practising at home is so fab! Thank you so much, wonderful!!
  • Ann Constantino     Jun 6th, 2012
Now I think I can even breathe through a Giants' game. Thanks for a great class.

Loved the pacing. Loved the reminders. This was such a great follow up to your Toronto workshops - which were AWESOME, I might add. I really appreciate your approach, your attention to the big picture tendencies so many of us seem to develop in a flow practice and also the careful thought and planning you obviously put into your teaching. You are most definitely a teachers' teacher! Thank you for your integrity and hard work. And yes, it seems that philosophy degree worked out perfectly! :)

  • Joel G     Jun 2nd, 2012
Great class for mindful breath work. Next time please incorporate inversions/handstands. This is were the tendency to hold the breath is so hard to shake.
  • Huda Mussa     Jun 2nd, 2012
That was pranayama in motion. It is a nice blend of physical practice pranic one. I felt my blockages has been removed with the constant breathing, my practice was softer as I don't have to think too much of alignment. Ironically, I could hold quite a bit in standing balances as the balance came from within.
  • K Z     Jun 2nd, 2012
Jason I struggled in my early. Morning meditation practice with my breath, and this new rhythmic vinyasa was a revelation! How can something so simple , basic and easy as breathing be accessed.... Well thanks for showing me!

  • Jason Crandell     Jun 1st, 2012
Yogagal - as always, thanks for your comments. I want to take a minute and provide you with some insight into how i think about my teaching process. My inclination is to default to letting people know what they're doing as they're doing on a cognitive level in addition to experiencing it on a physical level. This is what i find sensible and this is what i want to contribute as an educator. I understand that you may be better off with this element dropped. I find that most people--myself included--appreciate regular reminders about the simplest things and find value in classes that combine cognitive feedback interspersed with the direct experience. Also, this is a 90-minute classroom environment and I'm taking nonverbal cues from the students that are in the room at the time. To the best of my ability, upon reading these cues I feel the need (accurate or not) to coach them along a little bit by framing their experience for them--especially since this practice was a bit different than what my regulars are familiar with. My decision to periodically remind them of the theme while they were directly experiencing them was a decision of technique and value, not compulsion. Thanks again for being such a thoughtful and consistent student.
  • yogagal      Jun 1st, 2012
First 1/2 hour was so nice, until we are told over over that this is a breathing based practice. Got it, let it be a breathing flow practice. Suggest you taking your own class experience the disruption of flow for yourself. It's a teachers compulsion to always be explaining our experience that disrupts the experience for ourselves. Sorry, this is meant as constructive. It's just 1 person's opinion. Think your a remarkable teacher, just feedback.
  • Jane M     Jun 1st, 2012
After a very stressful day it's nice to breathe again! Very calming. Thanks always.
