Increase Your Balance

You can increase your ability to balance over time through regular practice. This is a gentle class that focuses on balance postures and builds up to some challenging (but fun) standing balance poses.  Of the more challenging poses are dancer (natarajasana) eagle (garudasana) tree (vrksasana) warrior 3 (virabhadrasana) and standing hip opener (eka pada galvasanana prep). There is a wee bit of the time at the end to slip in a refreshing supported bridge with a block.

    Dearest Jo,

    Early next week, I am teaching similar poses in my final Hatha exam,

    and am still learning the most useful contraindications to mention.

    PS So far, mentioning -- general balance contras' are : inner ear issues, pregnancy 2nd trim+, and blood pressure issues

    The poses I am teaching are: tree pose, and dencers pose to general students.
    We always include a grounding through roots, beginning right sided.

    I've had this in my queue for ages, but was too afraid that I wouldn't be able to accomplish any of the balancing poses. I was having an off-balance day today and decided to challenge myself with this class because hey, what do I have to lose? I was pleasantly surprised at what a gentle and nourishing class this was, and I was able to really focus my mind and body on being grounded. I felt really strong and balanced in all of the poses!     Thanks Jo! You are awesome. I love your energy and this class was really helpful. I like it so much that I am going to incorporate it into my daily routine to work on improving my balance since I have an weak left ankle. Do you plan to do any balancing classes that are level 2?     I wish Jo had more classes. I love her level 2 classes. Her flow is perfect for me as I have a tendency to get dizzy if the flow is a very fast pace.

    Thank you for another great class Jo! I've been hearing about YogaGlo for awhile and just started recently. I need to modify my practice while I recover from a broken wrist and surgery.
