Handstand Flow

Vinyasa Flow | By Dice Iida-Klein on May 17 2012
A flow based on making your ascent and descent in and out of handstand smooth and controlled. We use blankets under our feet to help us slide back and forth on the floor. If you have carpet, use paper plates, a frisbee, or furniture sliders. Most of us use a lot of momentum to enter our handstands. This class will force you to use your core center to find a little more control and fluid movement into handstand. A few standing postures, a few backbends and twists are covered in class. Be prepared to make your belly sore my fellow yogis!

Great class! Good idea to gain strenght by sliding blanket. I'm so happy I've found the best place to learn armbalances and inversions in the net. Yogaglo rocks!!! And Dice and many other great teachers are true gift to vinyasa yoga.

Great class.....can't believe I actually had a smile on my face...for some of the class that was not how I was feeling! Added to my favorites!
  • Stephanie Boedecker     Feb 6th, 2014
I equally loved and hated that - blanket work = tough..getting into and holding my handstand = awesome.
  • Mox Schults     Feb 5th, 2014
Hey Dice, I love this class--I've done it probably 5 or 6 times now, and my handstand control is vastly improved!

Your classes are by far my favorite. Great energy, great pace, and I always know there will be fun interesting difficult things to work on/through. Love your attitude and approach to yoga.

    namaste!

Loved this creative challenging class! Blankets aren't just for restorative or frog anymore! No cheating here! I laughed, grunted and flubbed my way through and loved every minute. Thanks!

That was absolutely amazing!! Thanks Dice. I have been practising handstands for a few months and am getting comfortable doing them but this is going to take the control to the next level. I am planning to revisit this class often.

DIce is my new Guru!! Can't rave about his class enough. Really hard but fun and a million tips. Thank you Dice.
  • Jessica Winstanley     Nov 25th, 2012
That was one of the best classes I've done on the site.. so original and innovative. Very impressed Dice. Like many mentioned, I too lifted to hold my handstand with control for the 1st time. Thank you. My only question - I love practicing and inversions, however I get back neck pain from holding handstand or forearm longer than 10 seconds or so (from back neck contraction looking between hands). I have tight shoulders no matter how often I stretch them, I imagine it's due to this. Any suggestions?
    • M'Le Leach     Feb 28th, 2013
Jessica, Tiffany Cruikshank has an inversion tutorial class that may help you with your problem. She's a very anatomical focused teacher. If you haven't tried any of her classes, I would highly recommend it (but of course do Dice's as well). Also, if you are using the wall, sometimes try letting your head drop. It'll take a lot of tension out of your neck. I hope this helps, and I hope Dice has some more tips to help.

Dice, u crazy man!!! U some sort of mad genius. Where do u come up with this stuff? Awesome class, really fired up my core and got me up into a controlled handstand for the first time!
  • Lindsay Sukornyk     Jul 9th, 2012
Loved this! I've been practicing for 12 years and love handstands, but can't get up in the middle of the room. This is the first time I have ever felt the core engagement required to get up slowly, without momentum. It was life-changing! More blanket, please, and more level 3!
  • Jenifer Cowles     Jul 6th, 2012
hey dice! :) You mentioned that, after jumping into bakasana, you had more planned that you decided to skip ( i guess your students looked tired ). I am wondering, would you do a level 3 class that gives us whatever more you had planned with the blanket!!! So much fun! Thanks!
  • Stephanie Dufort     Jul 2nd, 2012
Awesome class! Definitely going to add this to my practice lineup, and i am going to introduce the blanket to my students :-) also, the crescent pose with blanket gave my hip flexor/psoas awesome eccentric contraction...tried hanuman at the end of class and it felt great, back leg felt really open :-)
  • Hanna Riley     Jun 21st, 2012
That was AWESOME! Crazy hard, but awesome. MORE BLANKET CLASSES PLEEEASE! :)
  • Jody S     May 30th, 2012

I love your hard classes, that's what I seek out! You have provided me more insight and help with handstand in the past month than I've found in 3 years. I hated core work, but now that I see it helps handstand, it's my new favorite. Great classes, Dice, I really enjoy them, every moment.
  • Gayle Jann     May 18th, 2012
Great class. Really challenging and strength building. This will be a great help toward really nailing the handstand.
  • Jessica Schreiber     May 18th, 2012

Hi Dice, so happy to practice with u this AM! The blankets fired up my inner thighs/bandhas, especially in vira 1 & 2. Still working on handstands without the momentum. As always, thank u for an awesome class. Can't wait till ur next handstand flow:)).
  • Lisa Martinez     May 17th, 2012
