Cultivate Inner Resilience

Yin | By Felicia Tomasko on Apr 27 2012
Cultivate inner resilience in this practice of long, slow holds yin-style. Our intention in this practice is to release tension in order to make space for our strength in vitality--known in Ayurveda as our ojas. Since our lives involve an ongoing parade of one of those weeks, we need to continually come back to practices that help us build our inner resilience. In this class, we begin with bridge with a block with variations and then move into shoulder releases, a long yin-style seated forward fold, a twist sequence and then a savasana that reminds us of the strength of the earth that is always available to nourish us.

  • Aria Shahram     Jan 13th, 2013
Felicia thanks so much. Do you have any modification suggestions for people who cannot do twists due to low back pain? What I did during this class was simply lie on my side with my knee tucked into my chest.
    • Felicia Tomasko     May 6th, 2013
Dear Aria, thanks for your note and I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the practice. In terms of modifications, you're completely on the right track with simply laying on your side with your knee tucked into your chest. You can also use a blanket between your knees to keep the knees stacked and the legs aligned with the spine. You can also lay on your back with your knees into your chest (an upside down child's pose) which can help soften the muscles of the low back. Or try happy baby pose instead. Please give yourself permission to experiment and let me know what works for you. Thanks! Felicia

I would like to use this practice daily in the morning before starting my day. Your words are so wise and wonderful to listen to during the poses. I have a relaxed and strong feeling in my body and mind and a readiness for the day, no matter what the day may hold. Resilience shall be my intention for the day.
    Deep Peace,
    Holly
    • Felicia Tomasko     May 6th, 2013
Dear Holly, we always need to remember resilience. Life will always be rocky, always have some measure of challenge, always try and test us. So we need to remember our own inner resilience to experience balance, ease, and well-being.We find, refind and refine that through practice. Namaste and peace back for you, Felicia
