Sweet Supine Practice

Yin | By Felicia Tomasko on Apr 13 2012
Nap or Yoga? This class provides an easy answer to this conundrum by offering both, or at least a sweet supine hip-opening practice with the feeling of a long savasana. We use two blocks for this practice that begins with a series of supine (laying down) poses to release the knots that are tied up in the hips. Between sides, we have an interlude of bridge with a block and before savasana we find support for the upper body with a backbend with two blocks. Throughout, we focus on the breath and directing the breath into the parts of the body that may be rigid in order for us to experience the ultimate in sweetness.

Second time I am taking this class, so yummy! Thanks Felicia for your classes. Being primarily a vinyasa flow practitioner and teacher, I love yin for the balancing effect. Sometimes we just need to stop, stay still and notice. Deep bow.

Thank you, Felicia, for your class. I naturally have high flexibility but because I overpronate at the ankles a recent flare up of my IT band and inner knees has had me focusing on the hip area for a couple weeks. The pose at minutes 22 & 44 caused my knees to object in the very place where I felt pain a few weeks back (I came out) and I was wondering if you had any thoughts as to what may have been misaligned? (left knee hurt in right twist & vice versa)

Thank you - this was amazing! I had a hard time with the supported back bend, even with the block on the "lowest setting." Do you have any suggestions for poses or practices that can help to loosen up that middle/upper part of the back?
