Evening Sleep Prep Flow

Vinyasa Flow | By Tiffany Cruikshank on Sep 14 2011
Unwind with a flow that will get you moving right away and then ease off into stillness. We'll meet the restlessness of the mind with movement and then slowly ease in so the mind settles and prepares for a deep restful sleep.

    Namaste from Costa Rica!

This is a beautiful class, really worked well to calm down my monkey mind which can often get worse close to bed-time. I think the activity at the start of class really works well to dispel some unused energies. thanks ...I' ll come back to this class....Good-night...sweet dreams
  • jessie MAGEE     Mar 18th, 2013
Waaaaay too fast for evening time! Had to stop after a few minutes and find a slower class. Frustrating because I would have really enjoyed it if with just two more breaths in every pose
    • Tiffany Cruikshank     Mar 19th, 2013
Sorry this one didn't work for you Jessie, hope you found a class that did. :)
  • Sarah-John Smith     Feb 28th, 2013
I love folding inward and letting go and being challenged at the same time! Perfect. I was really in the zone by the time the second pigeon rolled around.
    • Tiffany Cruikshank     Mar 8th, 2013
      Nice Sarah! :)
  • dar carman     Feb 18th, 2013
love when you speak about the meridians. Would really enjoy more of that ! thanks, Dar
    • Tiffany Cruikshank     Feb 18th, 2013
Will keep that in mind for future classes, thanks for the feedback, glad you like it! ;)
  • sherri allen     Feb 10th, 2013
I loved this...the idea of meeting the mind's activity before slowing down really worked for me. I think if you would have told me to immediately "quiet" down I wouldn't have been able to do it...not last night anyway! Thank you!
    • Tiffany Cruikshank     Feb 18th, 2013
      Great to hear Sherri. ;)

WOW wonderful, I did this practice in the AM (I know what a rebel)... I finished with the block behind the base of the skull, holding in different areas letting the head be heavy (in your bk & you have it in a head /neck release class here too)... fantastic! Right in the middle of holiday chaos - and this did the trick. Love your energetic & strenghtening (challenging) sequence/flow and love balancing this out with a couple of restorative poses...looking for more restorative poses. My classes love ending in these restoring poses. MANY THANKS!! happy holidays!
    • Tiffany Cruikshank     Feb 18th, 2013
Great to see you in Kansas Leigh Ann.... xoxo :)

  • Mike Cook     Jun 30th, 2012
Amazing series to relax the mind. Literally, the brain dropped! Thank you also for the words at the end. It is true, we ALL have trouble letting go. A nice reminder that we are not alone :)
  • elizabeth trattner     Jun 25th, 2012
As a fellow Acupuncture Physician and Yogi this was an amazing class that spoke to me at many levels. Thank you for a beautiful way to wind down and relax my brain after a long day.Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  • Amy Bereczki     Jun 14th, 2012
I have always struggled with switching off my brain at night especially on evenings I can't fit in some form of exercise. I think this was exactly the type of class I needed! Thanks :)
  • Nina Vasehus     Jun 11th, 2012
Absolutely wonderful way to end my day and bring awareness from busy thoughts back to my body! Still some jumping technique I need to work on though ;o)Thank you!
  • Kim Welch     May 8th, 2012
This is exactly what I needed--to get the energy out and then get sleepy. Thank you!
  • Melissa Lopez     Apr 18th, 2012
Brilliant sequence! I was surprised by the amount of movement at first but trusted the flow. Grateful for the heaviness and quiet during the supported inversion. Thanks so much!
  • Tze-Wen Chao     Apr 12th, 2012
I have to take back my earlier comment: after practicing this sequence a few more times, my resisting ego has realised how much the busy mind actually does calm down after. Thank you, Tiffany :-)
  • Maurey Lancaster     Apr 12th, 2012
Brilliant sequence. I love your teaching x

  • Ineke Abunawass     Mar 27th, 2012
That was a unique and suprisingly effective approach for a late evening practice. And ditto on the neat inversion at the end of practice - nice lead in to savasana.
  • Tiffany Cruikshank     Mar 18th, 2012
Thanks Abigail, glad it was helpful. ;)
  • Tiffany Cruikshank     Mar 18th, 2012
Hum, not sure John, try it out. ;)
  • abigail waxler     Mar 14th, 2012
this was great. sometimes the only time i have for my practice is before bed; when i don't want to do so much that I have too much energy, buT I want some heat so I feel like I got a good work out at the same time. I feel like I worked hard enough to be satisfied and ready for bed.
  • John Miller     Mar 14th, 2012
    Hi Tiffany,
I've lost my sound on my computer. I can still watch your program though. I wonder how much in advance of sleep time is your program done?
    Thanks,
    John
  • Jill Kulas     Mar 13th, 2012
Like many others I really appreciate an evening practice that moves from heat to stillness. Just because I practice before bed doesn't mean I don't want a bit of a workout! And you are right on about needing a certain level of activity to help switch the brain off. So for me, this practice was a great fit for both mind and body. Gracias from Madrid!
  • Natalie Deuschle     Mar 6th, 2012
Perfect! I loved the supported inversion at the end, never tried that before. :)

  • Deirdre Mullins     Nov 29th, 2011
Thanks Tiffany. Like the others I didn't expect it to be so active before bed but it makes sense when you talk about switching on and off our nervous system..I think i have a big problem there! I'm feeling nice and sleepy now so looking forward to bed. If you go to Malta you must drop into Ireland on the way. We would love you to run some workshops here!
  • Tiffany Cruikshank     Nov 17th, 2011

  • Autumn Cuellar     Sep 29th, 2011
Loved this sequence. More challenging than I expected for a sleep prep course, but in the end I was happy to have met the challenge. Tiffany, this is the first of your classes I have taken, and I rather enjoyed the informative banter. Thanks!

@ Tze-Wen_ there are many different approaches to an evening class, try one of our more restorative or yin classes you might find that they give you more of what you need before bed. :)
  • Lisa Hagen     Sep 16th, 2011

  • Tze-Wen Chao     Sep 16th, 2011
I found it to vigorous and sweaty for just-before-bed yoga. Would work great for early evening though!
