Love this class, as always! I do not know if this question has a direct answer, but I will ask you anyway. I took a mind-body dosha survey, and it said I was a kapha dosha all-around. One of the recommendations was to practice yoga for balance. It didn't really make any specific recommendations beyond yoga (well, without purchasing something!). Is there a certain style of practice or as an as I should be aiming to do? I am extremely new to the word Ayurveda... just trying to learn how to expand upon what my yogaglo experience has done in my life! Thanks for any feedback or direction!

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your note and I'm honored and delighted that you enjoyed the class. To answer your question, according to the teachings of Ayurveda, having a body type with a lot of kapha (the earth and water elements) means that movement of all kinds is good. The motto for you is just do it, just get on the mat, just focus on improving circulation, removing stagnation, and allowing energy to move through your more effectively. Pay attention to the types of activities that help you to feel more energized after you do them. Play and expand. Let me know how this lands for you and stay in touch! Namaste, Felicia

  • Meaghan Quinn     Jan 18th, 2014
It's not springtime here, but this week I was feeling a build-up of Kapha and feeling depressed. This was such a gift - I feel lighter and happier and will return to this during those times of the month! Thank you Felicia!
    • Felicia Tomasko     Jan 25th, 2014
Dear Meaghan, Whatever the season, we can feel the heaviness of the kapha dosha if stagnation settles into the body. Depression is not uncommon when this happens. The remedy is practice. Please come back to this practice as often as needed and remember to let go and to lighten up. Enjoy and thank you for note...Please take care of yourself. Namaste, Felicia

Thank you Felicia, I really enjoyed your class. I hope it helps move this cold out of my body a little quicker. I also appreciated all the information you sprinkled throughout your class on the lymphatic system and Ayurveda. Thank you, great class.
    • Felicia Tomasko     Feb 8th, 2013
Dear Elizabeth, I'm sorry to hear about your cold, and I, too, hope that it moves quickly--even more so now. I love knowing more about the benefits of the practice and this deeper connection and I'm glad that you found it meaningful as well. Many blessings, Felicia
  • Melissa Watkins     Jan 21st, 2013
I am a gymnastics judge and just spent the whole weekend traveling and sitting and writing. This was just what I needed to flush out and start the week feeling fresh. I am in meet season now, so I will likely be returning to this practice every Monday morning! Thank you!
    • Felicia Tomasko     Jan 23rd, 2013
Dear Melissa, What a great calling and an intense way to spend the weekend. I'm glad to hear that you were able to take some time to flush out whatever no longer belongs to you, what is not necessary, to allow what is new to come in. Good luck with meet season--a busy time! Good luck coming back to this practice again and again and let me know how it goes. Thank you! Felicia
  • R Sharp     Jan 10th, 2013
Thank you so much. I started this practice today feeling heavy, angry, stuck. Now I feel much lighter. And less like I need to control everything. ;) Thank you!
    • Felicia Tomasko     Jan 23rd, 2013
Dear R Sharp, The energy of the kapha dosha in Ayurveda is like a wall. Strong, stable, but immobile. Sometimes in life we end up like a big brick wall and we may not be happy about it. Rather than pounding our fists, let's open the door. That's the power of this practice, finding another way, opening the door and finding freedom. Enjoy the lightness and stay that way! Thank you, Felicia
  • Alia Fling     Jan 10th, 2013

    • Felicia Tomasko     Jan 10th, 2013
Dear Nathalie, I am honored by your comments and so happy to hear that you were touched by this practice. The seat or home of the kapha dosha is the upper chest and backbends and heart openers really keep the energy moving around the heart. May your heart continue to be filled with love, Felicia

  • Shereen Samuels     Jan 7th, 2012
Beautiful - I feel all fizzy and tingly.
  • Felicia Tomasko     Dec 14th, 2011
Dear Amber, yes, exactly, kasha is water and earth. But the point I was making in the description below is that the body's spaces or channels can become clogged. Increasing circulation and movement in the body is key to removing stagnation. Negotiating the relationships between air/space as vats and earth/water as kapha are important for appropriate circulation. If I said that kapha is comprised of air and space in the video, then I may have made a verbal typo. But I'm not sure if you're commenting on our description below. I'm glad you enjoyed the sequence & thanks for sharing yoga on yogaglo. Felicia

    Dear Renee
My pleasure! I'm glad you enjoyed the class! Yoga is such an amazing experiential practice....it's not about what you think or believe, it's about what you feel. Ultimately, that's what's important and I'm glad you found that meaningful.
    See you on the mat,
    Felicia
  • Renee Schaller     Aug 9th, 2011
Thanks for another beautiful class, Felicia. I do feel lighter! And I loved what you said about yoga being experiential: what matters is how our bodies feel on the mat.

    Om shanti, shanti, shanti.

    Dear Patti
There is a famous saying that goes something like this: You don't have to believe in the water to get wet when you swim in the ocean.

So, you don't have to know anything about Ayurveda to benefit from the practice.

Ayurveda is one of the healing traditions native to India that shares a lot of the same philosophy and way of looking at the body as Yoga.

The Kapha dosha is the energetic quality of air and ether or space. When the kapha dosha is out of balance, we may feel a sense of stagnation in the body. This type of practice helps us dislodge what is stuck--something that is helpful in creating balance.

I'm glad you enjoyed the practice. See you on the mat!

    Felicia
  • Patti MacPherson     Jul 12th, 2011
I don't know much about ayruveda and am not really sure what the kapha dosha is but whatever it is I really needed this practice, feels wonderful and am adding to my favorites, thank you!
  • Felicia Tomasko     Jul 12th, 2011
    Dear Geralyn,
Thank you for your heartfelt note. My teaching comes from years of my own practice and diving into the everyday philosophy of Ayurveda and how we can incorporate it in our everyday lives. I see it as cross-training, and I often practice many different types of yoga (including with the Anusara teachers at Yogaglo).

Stress and imbalance can certainly throw off our immune system and all of the systems of our body.

I hope the restorative practices are helping to restore ;-) balance in your own body and many your practice help you find healing.

    See you on the mat.

    With gratitude,

    Felicia
  • Geralyn Datz     Jul 1st, 2011
Felicia: So much to say, so few ways to express my gratitude for this practice, in particular, which is helping me recover from a nasty illness (brought on by stress and imbalance no doubt), but also for all the practices you offer on Yogaglo. I am so glad to have found you! You are an amazing teacher, and have helped me reconnect to my body in many ways. I typically practice anusara regularly, but some recent back pain prevented me from doing as much as i normally do. Quite by accident I discovered you and your restorative classes. I found that, at least at this particular time in my life, the restorative practices are helping me a great deal. Thank you so much for all you do. You are a bright light in the universe of yoga and ayurveda. Blessings to you.
